Tanveer takes four in warm-up draw

England's final dress rehearsal for the first Test against Bangladesh on Thursday ended with a draw in the second two-day tour match against BCB XI at the MA Aziz Stadium in Chittagong today. 

Responding to BCB XI's first innings score of 294 all out, an innings powered by Abdul Mazid's glittering 106 on Sunday, England XI were bowled out for 258 in 80 overs of batting, with Tanveer Haider picking up four for 54. 

Openers Ben Duckett and the 19-year-old Haseeb Hameed put their names in the mix, in their contrasting styles, to be skipper Alastair Cook's opening partner in the absence of Alex Hales, who chose to sit the tour out because of security concerns.

The two put on 90 without loss in the morning session, with Duckett hitting 60 off 101 balls with 10 boundaries. The left-hander, who also played a starring role in England's 2-1 ODI series win over the hosts, retired over the lunch break to give other batsmen a go.

At the end of the afternoon session, Haseeb was unbeaten on 57 when the umpires removed the bails. He faced 125 balls and struck nine boundaries in his patient knock. 

BCB XI got back into the contest with Haider's legspin after he took the wickets of Joe Root, Jonny Bairstow and Jos Buttler in quick succession. Root was dismissed for 24 while Bairstow and Buttler failed to reach double digits in terms of runs scored. 

He then returned to bowl Chris Woakes, the ninth wicket to fall, late in the evening session before Taskin Ahmed bowled Gareth Batty with a yorker 10 minutes before the scheduled close to bring an end to proceedings. 

Earlier, England openers Ben Duckett and Haseeb Hameed settled down and gave their team a solid start by reaching 90 for no loss in 27 overs at lunch.

BCB captain Soumya Sarkar used six bowlers but none of them were able to deliver any breakthroughs on the placid pitch at Chittagong, where run-making gets easier with time at the middle. Likewise, English openers were prepared to occupy the crease with grit and were determined to get acclimatized to the conditions.

Duckett was unbeaten on 60 from 102 balls, and he struck 10 fours in his solid knock. He took his time to get going, and was at four from 36 balls. However, back to back fours in Subashis Roy's over, then the same treatment for Ebadat Hossain gave Duckett the momentum to score freely afterwards.

Haseeb was more subdued than his partner, and as a classical opener prepared to play the waiting game, the young English batsman batted sensibly to nullify the early bursts from the pacers
