I know how painful suffering from dengue is: Shakib

The city hospitals are currently swamped with dengue affected patients as it has spread all over the country like never before. There have been record number of cases of dengue this year in Bangladesh with a huge number of people currently suffering from it.

Bangladesh star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan addressed the situation and talked about the need for people to be aware and take steps regarding fighting this situation. Shakib went to Banani Bidyaniketan School & College in Dhaka today and was part of a campaign raising awareness about the seriousness of dengue.

"This year the dengue fever has spread all over the country like never before. And as this has spread seriously with the people living in Dhaka city carrying it to other cities, I think everyone needs to be serious about it. Everyone needs to know and understand how serious the situation is. Maybe I and my family are not affected but it's a very painful thing for the ones who are affected," said the nation's premier all-rounder.

Shakib, who has suffered from dengue, said he knows how painful it can be and hoped that his advices would help people.

"I once suffered from dengue. I know how painful it is. A lot of people are in severe state while many are dying. Even the ones who are aware, starting from doctors and people at high posts at different levels are also dying. This is an alarming issue for us. So I think if there are more people like me who would come forward and create awareness then it would be easy to get this situation under control.

"We all should do whatever it needs to be done as a responsible citizen. As far as I know there are 6,500 students at the Banani Bidyaniketan School & College and that means there are 6,500 families. If they inform one other family then 13,000 families will be aware of the situation. If this even helps a little bit than I think my campaign would be successful. And as the kids are being more affected by dengue, so if they even remember any of my advices then I think it is a successful campaign.

The 32-year old also urged his team mates to come forward and do their bit during this challenging time of the nation.

"Obviously. I think everyone should go to their nearby schools and take part in campaigns. Even the media also has a part to play. If all the things we are saying could help them in anyway then that is our achievement. Everyone living here in Dhaka city has a responsibility." Shakib concluded.
