Rajshahi City Corporation official arrested on rape charge

Police have arrested an office assistant of Rajshahi City Corporation in connection with a case filed against him for raping a college student.  

Taj Murad Liton (43), the office assistant and computer operator of engineering section at the corporation was shown arrested this morning, said Sub-Inspector Kajol Rekha, duty officer of Motihar Police Station.

He was placed before a court in the afternoon and was later sent to jail, he added.

The victim's sister filed a rape case with Motihar Police Station accusing Liton.

On the night of October 3, police picked up Liton and the college girl from her sister's house at Budpara area under Motihar Police Station.

In the case statement, the victim's sister alleged that Liton and her sister started an affair one year back when she got a part time job at the engineering section. They continued the affair even after she left the job. The victim told police Liton raped her after promising to marry her.

The police have sent the girl to the One-stop Crisis Centre for forensic tests.
