Walking on ‘human bridge’: Chandpur chairman’s bail cancelled
The High Court today scrapped a lower court order that granted bail to Chandpur's Haimchar upazila Chairman Nur Hossain Patwary in a case filed for walking over a “human bridge” formed by students of a local school on January 30.
A picture of Nur walking over the “human bridge” went viral on the social media, drawing outrage and criticism, in the first week of February.
Abdul Kadir Gazi, a guardian of one of the students of Nilkamal School, lodged the case against five people, including Nur, also general secretary of Awami League Haimchar upazila unit, under the children act.
The court also directed Nur to surrender to the lower court in four weeks.
The bench of M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Shahidul Karim came up with the order following a petition filed challenging the lower court order that granted bail to Nur.
On April 25, 2017, the HC issued a rule asking the judge of Shishu Adalot (child court) of Chandpur to show causes in two weeks under what authority his court granted bail to Nur Hossain in this case.
