Municipal polls: AL rebels to face show-cause notice

Awami League will issue a show-cause notice asking to its rebel candidates in the recently held municipality polls to explain as to why they would not be expelled from the party permanently.

The ruling party made the decision at a meeting held at the party chief’s Dhanmondi office in Dhaka today.

“We will start issuing show-cause notices to the rebel candidates from today, asking them to submit their answers by the next 15 days,” SM Kamal, AL central committee member, told The Daily Star.

The ruling party earlier suspended around 55 grassroots leaders for contesting the polls as mayor candidates ignoring the party decision.

Of them, 19 rebels secured victory.
