Nasir, Manjur submit nomination form in Ctg
AJM Nasir Uddin and M Manjur Alam Manju, the Awami League- and BNP-backed mayor aspirants, submitted their nomination papers today to contest the forthcoming Chittagong City Corporation polls slated for April 28.
Today is the last date for filing nomination for mayor and councillor aspirants.
AJM Nasir Uddin submitted his nomination form to Returning Officer Abdul Baten around noon. Former Chittagong mayor ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury accompanied him during the submission.
Earlier around 9:00am, Alam along with BNP leaders Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury and Abdullah Al Noman reached the EC office and submitted the paper to the returning officer, our Chittagong correspondent reports.
Manjur resigned from the post of mayor on Friday and joined the next mayoral race for the port city.
The mayoral polls for Chittagong and two halves of Dhaka cities will be held on April 28.
BNP, who earlier said would rather continue their move for a fresh national election, did not make any official statement on their participation in the city polls. However its leaders are already starting to join the race.
