Gayeshwar gets bail in vandalism, arson case
The High Court today granted ad-interim bail to BNP leader Gayeshwar Chandra Roy for six months in a vandalism and arson case.
Police filed the case on December 24 last year on charges of vandalising and setting fire to the car of Netrakona-1 MP Chhabi Biswas and preventing law enforcers from discharging their duties at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Gayeshwar, however, cannot get released from jail following the HC order, since is arrested in two other cases, his lawyer Nitai Roy Chowdhury told The Daily Star.
The HC also issued a rule upon the government to explain as to why Gayeshwar should be granted regular bail in the vandalism and arson case.
The bench of Justice Quamrul Islam Siddique and Justice Gobinda Chandra Tagore granted the bail and issued the rule following a petition filed by the accused BNP leader.
Deputy Attorney General Bashir Ullah opposed the bail petition.
Gayeshwar was sent to jail on surrender before a Dhaka court on April 20 in connection with a case.
