BNP behind attack on Prof Zafar Iqbal: Quader
Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader today termed the attack on Prof Muhammed Zafar Iqbal a “conspiracy” and alleged that BNP is patronising the conspirators.
“It is already clear who are behind the attack,” Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, came up with the remarks while distributing leaflets in Gulistan area of Dhaka ahead of the March 7 rally at Suhrawardy Udyan.
“It is true that the attack is a conspiracy and BNP is patronising those who are conspiring. BNP is trying to create confusion in people’s minds, they are not working for the interest of the country,” Quader said.
Those who are behind the attack will be identified, he said adding that the government will not spare any of the culprits.
The AL general secretary said the attack on Dr Zafar Iqbal is a sign that an evil force is out to create instability in the country. “The attacker said he launched the attack on Prof Iqbal as he is anti-Islamist but we do not know of any such fact that the professor has ever done anything against Islam.”
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is deeply concerned with the attack on Prof Iqbal and she herself is monitoring his treatment process, Quader said.
Prof Muhammed Zafar Iqbal came under a knife attack yesterday. He was initially treated at MAG Osmani Medical College and Hospital in Sylhet where he had to be administered 27 stitches and was given two bags of blood.
Later, he was flown to the capital by an air ambulance on the directives of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. He reached the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka around midnight.
He is now doing well and is out of danger, a doctor in CMH said today.
