‘Now law enforcers do election works for AL’
BNP senior leader Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury today alleged that a group of law enforcers with the help of the Election Commission (EC) carried out ‘election works’ in favour of Awami League in Gazipur and Khulna city polls.
“Awami League leaders and activists now do not need to carry out election works as a group of law enforcers, including police and DB, are doing that. They did that in Khulna and Gazipur polls with the help of the Election Commission,” he said.
The BNP leader came up with the allegation at a discussion arranged by Nagorik Odhikar Andolon at the Jatiya Press Club in Dhaka.
Khosru, a BNP standing committee member, also alleged that journalists were obstructed from presenting the truth in the Gazipur polls held on Tuesday.
“They (govt) now want to destroy the fourth state of the country after obliterating three others,” he said.
The BNP leader also said people must get united and put up a strong resistance against the current process of snatching their voting rights, “or else, people will remain deprived of their voting rights forever, and the country will be run by an illegal regime.”
He urged the people of all walks of life to work together to restore the rule of law and democracy in the country. “BNP will surely cooperate with you.”
He said BNP now has two main targets -- freeing party chairperson Khaleda Zia from jail and forcing the government to hold the next polls under a non-party neutral administration through a movement.
