Polls can’t be fair with this EC: BNP
BNP Standing committee member Nazrul Islam Khan today said he is doubtful over the general election owing to the current activities of the Election Commission.
The government is continuing its arrest spree of BNP leaders in order to hold a farcical general election like the one in 2014, the BNP leader said at a press conference at Nayapaltan’s BNP Central Office.
“The commission is staying mum over this”, the BNP polls coordination committee chief said criticising the Election Commission’s role. EC is working as “government’s associate,” he added.
In this situation, free and fair election is not possible, Nazrul also said.
WHEN IS THE ELECTION?
Election Commission has revised polls schedule, deferring the 11th general election by a week to December 30 – a decision taken earlier on November 12.
The authorities have fixed November 28 as the deadline for filing nomination papers, December 2 for scrutiny and December 9 as the last date of withdrawal.
The move came following demands from several opposition political parties.
