BCL attack on JCD an ominous sign for politics: Fakhrul
Terming Chhatra League attack on Chhatra Dal leaders as an ominous sign for politics, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today expressed his party’s grave condemnation to the attack and demanded punishment of the attackers.
“Chhatra League men attacked democracy. It’s not only disgraceful, rather an ominous sign for politics,” Fakhrul came up with the remark after visiting the injured Chhara Dal leaders at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) this afternoon.
Several leaders and activists of BNP’s student wing Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) were injured in an attack allegedly by workers of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) on the Dhaka University campus this afternoon.
The injured JCD leaders and activists received treatment at the DMCH.
Fakhrul said his party’s student front leaders came under the attack when they were trying to introduce a new chapter in the politics.
But their efforts have been rooted out through the attack, the BNP leader came down heavily on the ruling party men for their indulgence in criminal activities like extortions and tender manipulation.
“The attack is blatant cowardice. The government has let loose the Chhatra League men against the pro-democratic force. I express my strong condemnation to the attack and demanded exemplary punishment of the attackers,” he said in a statement later.
