AL council creates leadership: Ashraf
The ruling Awami League today formed a 67-member council preparation committee headed by party president Sheikh Hasina.
The party’s general secretary Syed Ashraful Islam will act as member secretary.
AL will hold its 20th council on July 10 and 11 in the capital, Dhaka.
Islam revealed this at a press conference at party president's Dhanmondi office.
The party also formed 11 sub-committees with senior party leaders to successfully hold council of the party that led the 1971 War of Liberation.
Terming AL's council as 'big issue', Syed Ashraf said AL's council creates leadership.
"Awami League's council is always a history. The decision of country's independence and also movement for Language in 1952 were taken from the Awami League's councils."
Like before, historical decision might come from the next council, said Ashraf, also minister of Public Administration ministry.
The last council of the party was held on December 29, 2012. The current committee expired on December 28 last year.
In January, the Awami League central working committee (ALCWC), the highest decision-making body of the party, decided to extend the tenure of the committee by six months. Later the party aging extended tenure by three months more at ALCWC meeting on March 20.
