Final day of campaigning sees rallies by top leaders across Dhaka

Thousands join processions as parties wrap up canvassing before February 12 vote

Election campaigning entered its final day today, with Dhaka witnessing rallies by senior leaders of major political parties, causing traffic congestion in parts of the capital.

Thousands of supporters attended the programmes, chanting slogans and holding placards.

BNP Chairperson Tarique Rahman joined rallies at Kamal Ataturk Avenue playground in his Dhaka-17 constituency and at the Kalabagan Krirachakro Club playground.

As of filing this report, he was addressing a rally in the Pir Jangi Mazar Road area.

He is scheduled to attend further rallies at Manda Tarun Sangha Playground at 2:00pm, Jatrabari Shaheed Faruk Road at 3:00pm, Jurain–Shyampur Road at 4:00pm, Dhupkhola Playground at 5:00pm and Lalbagh Balurmath at 6:00pm.

A campaign rally of Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis Ameer Maulana Mamunul Haque, nominee of the 11-party electoral alliance in Dhaka-13, was held at Mohammadpur Eidgah Ground from 10:00am to 1:30pm.

Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman and National Citizen Party Convener Nahid Islam, among others, attended the programme.

Meanwhile, a mass procession led by Shafiqur Rahman is scheduled to begin at 4:00pm from the Agargaon Taltola area.

Election campaigning is set to end at 7:30am tomorrow, in line with the Election Commission’s schedule.
