Easy bike driver arrested over rape of speech-impaired girl in Narail

Police today arrested an easy bike driver on charges of abducting and raping a 13-year-old girl with speech impairment in Lohagara upazila of Narail.

Selim Sheikh, 27, of Boyra village under Laxmipasha union, was arrested in his house shortly after the victim’s mother filed an abduction and rape case with Lohagara Police Station around 11:30am today, said its Inspector Ajit Kumar Roy.

According to the case statement and police sources, the girl had been living at her maternal grandfather’s house in a village under Lohagara upazila. Around 4:00pm on Friday, Selim lured her into his easy bike from a road near the house and took her to an undisclosed location and raped her.

Later in the evening, the accused dropped the victim near Lutiya Bazar under Dighalia union and fled. After being rescued by her family, the girl described the ordeal to her relatives, who then brought her to the local police station.

The victim has been sent to Narail District Hospital for medical examination, said the inspector, adding that legal proceedings are underway.
