Trawler with sacrificial cattle capsizes in Buriganga
Three cattle traders were injured and at least 26 cattle went missing after a trawler carrying 31 sacrificial cattle capsized in the Buriganga river at Fatullah in Naraygang this evening.
The trawler “MV Dhulia-1” carrying the sacrificial animals left for a temporary cattle market at Fatullah DIT ground from Tangail this afternoon, our Narayanganj correspondent reports quoting police.
The trawler sank in the mid-river when the it reached near Fatullah launch ghat around 7:00pm, said M Salam, sub-inspector of Fatullah Model Police Station.
All the seven cattle traders on board the trawler and five animals managed to swim ashore. The three injured traders were taken to the 300-Bed Narayanganj Hospital for treatment, the police official said.
Other 26 cattle remained missing till filing this report around 9:00pm.
Manjur Quader, officer-in-charge of Fatullah Model Police Station, said they have informed the fire service station in Narayanganj.
However, no rescue team have started their operation till last reported.
