Natore crash bus driver surrenders

The bus driver involved in the deadly Natore crash of last Saturday that left 15 persons dead during Eid journey has turned himself in to police.

Shamim Hossain, 42, the driver of Challenger Paribahan, was handed over to detectives after he surrendered in Bogra, our local correspondent reports.

Nure Alam Siddique, officer-in-charge of Bogra Detective Branch, and Sheikh Helal, general secretary of Bogra Motor Workers’ Union, have confirmed the development.

Manju is one of the seven accused in a case filed with Lalpur Police Station over the crash. Police so far arrested the driver's assistant Abdus Salam.

In the incident that took place last Saturday, the remodeled bus collided with a modified human haulier – locally known as leguna – on the Natore-Pabna highway.

Low-speed human hauliers and illegal locally designed three-wheelers have been kept off the Natore-Pabna highway following the crash causing public sufferings.
