EC finalises 300 constituency boundaries, redraws 46 seats

Ahead of the upcoming 13th national election next year, the Election Commission has issued a circular today, finalising the boundaries of the 300 constituencies.
EC has also redrawn the boundaries for 46 constituencies in 16 districts. The upcoming election will be held based on these boundaries.
In the final list, the commission has added a new parliamentary constituency in Gazipur district and reduced one in Bagerhat.
Currently, Gazipur has five parliamentary seats while Bagerhat has four.
The 46 redrawn seats are: Panchagarh-1 and 2; Rangpur-1 and 3; Sirajganj-1 and 2; Pabna-1 and 2; Bagerhat-1, 2 and 3; Satkhira-2, 3 and 4; Manikganj-2 and 3; Dhaka-2, 4, 5, 7, 10 and 14; Gazipur-1, 2, 3, 5 and 6; Narayanganj-3, 4 and 5; Faridpur-2 and 4; Shariatpur-2 and 3; Brahmanbaria-2 and 3; Cumilla-1, 2, 6 and 10; Noakhali-1, 2, 4 and 5; and Chattogram-7 and 8.
Election Commission Secretariat today issued a circular in this regard. The circular was signed by its Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed.
Akhtar Ahmed said this evening, "A notification has been issued regarding the delimitation of 300 parliamentary constituencies for the 13th national election.
According to the EC's circular, after receiving claims, objections, recommendations, and opinions on the matter, the commission held a four-day hearing.
Following a review of the information and arguments presented during the hearings, and making necessary amendments to the constituencies, the final list of redrawn boundaries for the 300 parliamentary seats was published.
According to the delimitation of constituencies law, the boundaries of Jatiya Sangsad constituencies should be redrawn based on the population distribution from the latest census, while keeping administrative units intact for convenience.
Earlier, on July 30, the EC published draft boundaries for 300 constituencies, reducing Bagerhat's seats from four to three and increasing Gazipur's from five to six.
By August 10, it had received 1,760 claims and objections on 83 constituencies.
EC held four-day hearings -- from August 24 to August 28 -- on the redrawing of boundaries for 84 constituencies across 33 districts.
A total of 1,185 objections and 708 recommendations were submitted, bringing the overall number of objections and recommendations to 1,893.
