Kabi Nazrul Institute to confer Nazrul Award 2017
Some people have dedicated their lives to make sure that the true essence of Nazrul remains an integral part of our culture. Out of the various initiatives taken by the Nazrul Institute, one such venture is to recognise and honour those Nazrul exponents who work tirelessly to uphold the opulence of Nazrul Sangeet, during the poet's death anniversary every year.
During today's occasion, the Nazrul Institute will pay homage to the bard by presenting the Nazul Award 2017 to deserving advocates along with a discussion and cultural programme which will be held at 4:30 pm today in Begum Sufia Kamal Auditorium of the Bangladesh National Museum.
This year, 'Nazrul Puroshkar 2017' will be bestowed upon Khairul Anam Shakil, who is a talented and much renowned Nazrul exponent; and Prof Dr Rashidun Nabi, head of the Department of Music of Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University. Both have conducted outstanding work in the field of Nazrul Sangeet.
During an interview with The Daily Star, Khairul Anam Shakil said, “With the full support of The Ministry of Cultural Affairs along with a handful of dedicated colleagues, our institute, Bangladesh Nazrul Sangeet Sangstha (BNSS) strives to maintain the authenticity of the heritage. Alongside, during our workshops, we ensure that the young attendees also learn the philosophy of the poet and garner in-depth knowledge about the poet's works.”
“My involvement with Nazrul was from 1978. I have tried to contribute as much as I could through my works. If I had to talk of the achievement that I am most proud of, it would be Nazrul Sangeet Songroho, an authentic compilation of more than 3000 songs. It helps as a guide for those who wish to learn more and is a favourite collection amongst Nazrul fans worldwide,” mentions Prof Dr Rashidun Nabi.
Minister of Information Hasanul Haque Inu will attend as the chief guest of the event, which is presided over by Professor Rafiqul Islam, current chairman of Nazrul Institute. Nasir Uddin Ahmed, Secretary Ministry of Cultural Affairs of Bangladesh, and Dr Muhammad Samad, pro vice-chancellor of the University of Dhaka will also grace the event as special guests. The welcome speech of the event will be delivered by Khilkhil Kazi, granddaughter of Kazi Nazrul Islam.
