[WATCH NOW] N'ganj anti-militant operation roundup

Tamim Ahmed Chowdhury, the mastermind of Gulshan café attack, and two other militants were killed during a joint forces' raid at a house in Narayanganj Sadar upazila this morning.

Tamim along with his two disciples rented the top floor of the three-storey building in Paikpara area on July 1, said the landlord.

They always kept the windows of their flat closed, according to some neighbours.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Counter Terrorism Unit Sanwar Hossain said Tamim and his two aides had no plan to surrender and were planning to destroy key evidence.

"We requested the militants to surrender several times between 6:30am and 6:45am. But, they didn't respond," he said.

"In the meantime, they destroyed evidence by setting fire to one of the rooms. They also broke laptops and mobile phones. This prompted us to launch the operation around 8:45am."

He also said police wanted to detain the chief alive as a lot of information could be gathered from him.

"It was our prime objective to arrest them alive," Sanwar said.
