Dengue claims 10 lives, highest in a day this year

Ten dengue patients died in 24 hours till 8:00 am today, the highest number of single-day casualties from the mosquito-borne disease in the country this year.

According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), among the deaths, five were reported from Dhaka South City Corporation, three in Dhaka North City Corporation, and one each in Khulna and Barishal divisions.

According to a press release issued by DGHS on September 21, 12 dengue deaths were reported in 24 hours. Of the 12 deaths, three occurred in the preceding 24 hours (September 20). According to this, the highest number of deaths from dengue occurred in 24 hours till 8:00 am today.

Besides, 1,069 others were hospitalised during the period.

With the new deaths and cases, the total number of dengue-related deaths this year rose to 302 while total cases rose to 74,992.
