Hazaribagh man allegedly stabs his two children before trying to kill himself
A man allegedly stabbed his two children, killing his daughter, before he tried to kill himself at their house in Hazaribagh area of the capital this afternoon.
Roza, 6, died of her wounds while her father Jabed, 40, and his son Rijon, 14, have been admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, said Bachu Mia, in-charge (inspector) of DMCH police outpost.
Rijon, who sustained stab wounds to the neck and hands, is currently under treatment.
The incident took place at their home in Battala Mazar area of Hazaribagh around 3:00pm.
"Primarily, we came to know that the man was in financial distress over a loan," Sub-Inspector Jahangir Alam Sohag of Hazaribagh Police Station, who was at the DMCH, told The Daily Star, adding that the exact reason will be known after talking to Jabed.
Rijon's uncle Mehedi Hasan said the family have their own tin-shed two-storey house where Jabed lives on the first floor with his two children. He had a small ready-made garments shop on the ground floor of the building.
Mehedi said Jabeb's wife Rima Akter was on the ground floor at the time of the incident. She heard some screams coming from the upper floor and rushed there. Upon entering, she saw three people lying injured. The three bore stab wounds to the neck. They were rushed to DMCH, where Roza was declared dead.
Her body was sent to the morgue for autopsy.
Hazaribagh Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sajidur Rahman said that they have learnt about the matter from the hospital and sent a team there.
The details will be known later, he added.
