The High Court today extended its earlier directive staying a lower court order that granted bail to Rashedul Haque Chisty, son of former chairman of Farmers Bank audit committee Mahbubul Haque Chisty, in a Tk 159 crore money laundering case.

The extension stay order will continue till the hearing of the Anti-Corruption Commission's stay petition by a regular High Court bench after its reopening, the HC said in the order.

The HC bench of Justice Jahangir Hossain Selim passed the extension order after holding a virtual hearing on the petition filed by the ACC seeking a stay on the lower court order that granted bail to Rashedul.

On May 20, the HC bench stayed till May 28 a lower court order that granted bail to Rashedul in the money laundering case.

The HC set today for further hearing on the stay petition and asked ACC to submit the lower court order.

Rashedul cannot get released from jail following the extension order, ACC's lawyer Khurshid Alarm Khan told The Daily Star.

He said the HC stayed the bail of Rashedul considering the gravity of his offence.

ACC filed the case with Gulshan Police Station in April 2018 against Rashedul, his father Mahbubul Haque Chisty and some others on charges of laundering Tk 159 crore.
