29.60 acres of Dhaleshwari River grabbed: survey
A survey report by Manikganj district administration revealed that a total of 29.60 acres of the Dhaleshwari River in the district have been encroached by land grabbers.
The district administration yesterday submitted the report to the High Court (HC) bench of Justice Moyeenul Islam Chowdhury and Justice Md Ashraful Kamal, through the office of the attorney general.
According to the report, two private companies, a non-government organisation and 46 individuals have grabbed the land. Two illegal structures have been built in the area and rampant sand-filling is also taking place.
The HC on October 23 last year ordered the district administration to submit a survey report following a writ petition filed by rights organisation Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh.
Advocate Manzill Murshid yesterday submitted another petition to the court seeking necessary orders on the government to evict all grabbers from the river.
The bench fixed February 25 for hearing and passing order.
