Mocha starts crossing Cox’s Bazar coast, wind speed up to 215 kmph: BMD

The very severe cyclonic storm Mocha over east central Bay and adjoining areas moved north-northeast wards, and intensified over northeast Bay and adjoining areas.

The storm was centred about 385 km south-southwest of Chattogram Port, 305 km south-southwest of Cox's Bazar port, 450 km south of Mongla Port and 370 km south of Payra Port at 6:00 am today.

It has started crossing the Cox's Bazar-north Myanmar coast, according to the latest bulletin of Bangladesh Meteorological Department.

it is likely to move in a north-northeasterly direction further, completely crossing Cox's Bazar-north Myanmar coast near Sittwe of Myanmar by this evening.

Maximum sustained wind speed within 74 km of the very severe cyclone centre is about 195 kmph rising to 215 kmph in gusts/squalls. Sea will remain very high near the storm centre.

Maritime port of Cox's Bazar has been advised to keep hoisted Great Danger Signal 10.

Maritime ports of Chattogram and Payra have been advised to keep hoisted Great Danger Signal 8.

Maritime port of Mongla has been advised to keep hoisted local warning Signal 4.

The coastal district of Cox's Bazar and its offshore islands and chars will come under Great Danger Signal 10.

The coastal districts of Chattogram, Feni, Noakhali, Laxmipur, Chandpur, Barishal, Bhola, Patuakhali, Jhalakathi, Pirojpur, Barguna and their offshore islands and chars will come under Great Danger Signal 8.

Riverports of the districts of Cox's Bazar, Chattogram, Feni, Noakhali, Laxmipur, Chandpur, Barishal, Bhola, Patuakhali, Jhalakathi. Pirojpur and Barguna have been advised to hoist riverine Great Danger Signal 4.

Under the peripheral effect of very severe cyclone and steep pressure gradient, the low-lying areas of the coastal districts of Cox's Bazar and Chattogram and their offshore islands and chars are likely to be inundated by the wind driven surge height of 08-12 feet above normal astronomical tide.

Under the peripheral effect of very severe cyclone and steep pressure gradient, the low-lying areas of the coastal districts of Feni, Noakhali, Laxmipur, Chandpur, Bhola and their offshore islands and chars are likely to be inundated by the wind driven surge height of 05-07 feet above normal astronomical tide.

Under the effect of very severe cyclone, Chattogram, Sylhet and Barishal divisions are likely to experience heavy (44-88 mm) to very heavy rainfall ( 89 mm).

Due to very heavy rainfall, landslide may occur at places over the hilly regions of Cox's Bazar, Bandarban, Rangamati, Khagrachhai and Chattogram.

All fishing boats and trawlers over north Bay have been advised to remain in shelter till further notice.
