Warner Bros drops 31 full-length movies on YouTube for free

Warner Bros Entertainment has taken a new, more accessible approach to monetising its extensive film catalogue by offering 31 full-length movies to stream for free on its YouTube channels, marking a departure from its previous attempts to drive revenue through subscription services.
Since early 2025, these films have been available with ads, though YouTube Premium subscribers can enjoy an ad-free experience. The list of movies spans various genres and decades, ranging from classics to cult favourites, ensuring a broad appeal including iconic titles like "Mutiny on the Bounty" featuring Marlon Brando, the Eddie Murphy sci-fi comedy "The Adventures of Pluto Nash", and Robert De Niro's historical drama "The Mission".

Quirky selections are also on the list, such as: "Waiting for Guffman", Leonardo DiCaprio's climate change documentary "The 11th Hour", and the 1997 action-comedy "Mr Nice Guy", starring Jackie Chan, which has already garnered over 16 million views since being uploaded on January 1.
While Warner Bros had previously licensed films for YouTube's free, ad-supported movies and TV section, the current shift sees the studio releasing these titles on its channels, such as Warner Bros Classics. The aim is to increase the visibility and discoverability of its content. This move is part of a larger experiment with YouTube as Warner Bros seeks new ways to capitalise on digital ad revenue from its extensive back catalogue.

Additionally, Warner Bros has expanded its partnerships, licensing content to other free, ad-supported platforms like Roku and Tubi. However, none of these films are currently available on Warner Bros Discovery's subscription streaming service, Max.
Warner Bros has even curated a YouTube playlist featuring these films with a playful blurb that reads: "Watch your favourite full movies here from Warner Bros Entertainment! All your favourite legends are here including Jackie Chan, Ryan Reynolds, Catherine O'Hara, Tarzan, Liam Neeson, Julia Roberts, Eugene Levy, and more! Keep an eye out for more feature-length films for free, right here." Though the use of "favourite" may be somewhat generous, the collection is undeniably varied and star-studded.
