The Daily Star symbolises endurance and strength: Badhan
For Azmeri Haque Badhan, The Daily Star’s 35-year journey stands as a testament to resilience. Congratulating the newspaper on reaching what she calls a “remarkable milestone,” she acknowledges the long and meaningful path the institution has travelled.
“Over the years, The Daily Star has faced countless challenges alongside many successes,” she says. “That journey, marked by endurance and strength, is what defines the institution. It is a journey that has been completed with resilience and will undoubtedly continue in the years ahead.”
Reflecting on the recent attack on the newspaper’s premises, Badhan describes the incident as deeply distressing and impossible to ignore. The violence, she says, crossed every moral boundary.
“What happened was condemnable, heartbreaking and horrifying. The act of setting the office on fire—and, more disturbingly, the attempt to burn journalists alive while they were trapped inside, reveals a level of barbarity that is truly appalling,” she adds, expressing her profound sorrow over the incident.
Badhan stresses the importance of accountability, calling for a thorough investigation so that responsibility is clearly established. “People deserve to know who was behind this, and those responsible must be brought to justice,” she says firmly.
Beyond its role as a news organisation, The Daily Star holds deep personal significance for her. As an artiste working in the cultural sector, she credits the newspaper for playing a vital role in shaping and supporting her career.
“For someone like me, The Daily Star has always been important—professionally and personally. It has supported our work, given us space, and treated arts, culture and entertainment with seriousness and respect. For that, I remain deeply grateful.”
Concluding her message, Badhan once again extends her congratulations, along with her love and best wishes, hoping that The Daily Star continues to stand strong as a pillar of truth, courage and public trust for generations to come.
