Shakil Khan recalls Sohanur Rahman Sohan in his film journey

Dhallywood's beloved hero, Shakil Khan, holds a special place in the hearts of cinema enthusiasts. His cinematic journey began with the superhit film "Amar Ghor, Amar Behest", a production helmed by Sohanur Rahman Sohan. This visionary director and Shakil Khan collaborated on five films, leaving an indelible mark on the industry.

The renowned veteran director left us yesterday, leaving an irreplaceable void in the Bangladeshi film industry. In an exclusive conversation with The Daily Star, Shakil Khan shared heartfelt memories of his association with the legendary Sohanur Rahman Sohan.

Recalling the beginnings in 1994, Shakil Khan reminisced, "I signed my first-ever movie contract with Sohanur Rahman. The preceding year had witnessed the phenomenal success of Sohan Bhai's 'Keyamat Theke Keyamat', a film etched in the hearts of the audience. I, too, was filled with anticipation and a deep desire to work under Sohan Bhai's directorial guidance. Finally, the moment arrived, and we started shooting."

He continued, "Then came the pivotal year of 1996, marked by the release of 'Amar Ghor Amar Behesht', a film that would alter the course of my life. It was during this time that Poppy and I tied the knot, and a new chapter in my life began. The film resonated with audiences across the country, catapulting me into stardom. My journey as a hero in Dhalywood officially kicked off, and for that, I am eternally grateful to him."

Sohan Bhai, as he affectionately referred to him, was not just a director but a masterful craftsman who nurtured talent. Shakil Khan fondly remembered, "He was dedicated to introducing fresh faces to the industry, viewing it as a challenge to bring new stars into the limelight. He had an incredible success rate, often making movies with newcomers that achieved overwhelming acclaim. He consistently presented new talents and delivered hit after hit."

He added, "Sohan Bhai will forever be remembered as one of the directors who reshaped the landscape of Bangladeshi cinema through his commitment to emerging artistes. His legacy will endure through his body of work, a testament to his dedication to the people."
