The Prague Film Festival 2025 is all set to take place from April 23 to 26 at Kino Pilotu Theatre in the Czech capital. Among the films featured at the event is "Not a Fiction", a Bangladeshi production that has already gained recognition by being screened at three Oscar-qualifying and two Canadian Screen Awards-qualifying festivals.

Directed, produced, and shot by young filmmaker Shah Newaz Khan Cju, "Not a Fiction" will have its European premiere at the festival. The one-shot film will also be competing for awards, facing strong contenders, including "I Am Not a Robot", the winner of the 2025 Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film, along with other international entries.

One of the most important sections of the festival is Voices of Distant Lands, which honours films that break away from conventional storytelling to present fresh perspectives on pressing social and humanitarian issues. This year, only five films worldwide have been selected in this category, with "Not a Fiction" standing out as the sole representative from Asia.

Based on true events, "Not a Fiction" serves as a historical record, shedding light on numerous extrajudicial incidents that have occurred across Bangladesh over the past two decades. The film is co-produced by film critic and journalist Sadia Khalid Reeti and Shah Newaz Khan Cju.

The cast features Udoyon Rajib, Naymul Alam Mishu, Rudroneel Ahmed, Oishik Sami Ahmed, Zawad Soudho, and Mithun.
