Nawazuddin Siddiqui, who is awaiting the release of his film "Jogira Sara Ra Ra," described depression as an 'urban concept' which only exists for rich people and not for villagers.

Nawazuddin, who was born in a small town in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar area, said his father would have slapped him hard if he had told him he was depressed.

In an interview with local media, the actor said 'depression' was something that only belongs to rich and privileged people.

"People didn't have any depression in the village, they were all happy there. After moving to the city, I got a closer look into what anxiety, despair and bipolar disorder looks like," said the actor.

The actor further stated that such mental health diseases don't affect the less privileged ones as they are busy trying to earn their livelihood.

"If you ask a labourer or someone who stays on the street 'What is depression', they will have no clue. These types of diseases are only inherited if you are rich," added the actor.

Nawazuddin's romantic comedy "Jogira Sara Ra Ra" alongside Neha Sharma is slated to be released in theaters on May 26. The film also stars Sanjay Mishra and Mahaakshay Chakraborty in pivotal roles.
