Nolan's ‘Oppenheimer’ drops intense trailer
The official trailer for Christopher Nolan's upcoming historical thriller, "Oppenheimer", was released by Universal Pictures yesterday. The film stars Cillian Murphy, of "Peaky Blinders" fame, as theoretical physicist J Robert Oppenheimer—commonly known as the 'father of the atomic bomb'.
"Oppenheimer" explores the life and morally dubious achievements of the physicist. Oppenheimer was the director of Los Alamos Laboratory, where the bombs were actually put together, and one of the main contributors to the Manhattan Project—a government research project that ran from 1942 to 1946, with a focus on developing nuclear weapons.
The star-studded cast of "Oppenheimer" includes Florence Pugh, Emily Blunt, Robert Downey Jr, Matt Damon, Gary Oldman, Rami Malek, Kenneth Branagh, Benny Safdie, Dane DeHaan, Jack Quaid, Matthew Modine, Alden Ehrenreich, Josh Peck, Jason Clarke, David Dastmalchian, Alex Wolff, and James D'Arcy, among many others.
The film is based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning biographical novel, "American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J Robert Oppenheimer" by Kai Bird and the late Martin J Sherwin.
"Oppenheimer" will be released in theaters on July 21, 2023.
