Nazifa Tushi returns to cinema with a trio of upcoming releases
After a six-year hiatus, Nazifa Tushi returned to the big screen in 2022 with "Hawa". Although her performance was widely praised, the actress soon stepped away from the spotlight again and remained absent from both films and OTT platforms for a while. This year, however, Tushi is gearing up for a strong comeback, with multiple projects lined up for release.
Official announcements have already been made for three of her upcoming films: Mejbaur Rahman Sumon's "Roid", Raihan Rafi's "Andhar", and N Rashed Chowdhury's "Shokhi Rongomala".
"Roid" is scheduled to have its international premiere at the International Film Festival Rotterdam in the Netherlands next February, followed by a theatrical release in Bangladesh. The makers have also confirmed that "Andhar" and "Shokhi Rongomala" are slated for release later this year.
Speaking to Ajker Patrika about her upcoming projects, Tushi said, "These are three very different films—by three different directors, with different stories and different characters."
In "Roid", Nazifa Tushi's character does not have a name and is identified simply as "Sadu's wife." The role of Sadu is played by Mostafiz Noor Imran. Tushi revealed that the role demanded extensive preparation. She did not use any makeup and even refrained from using soap and shampoo for six months. She also altered her physical appearance to suit the character.
In N Rashed Chowdhury's "Shokhi Rongomala", Tushi plays the central role. The film is based on a novel by fiction writer Shaheen Akhtar and depicts the story of a zamindar family in Noakhali in the 18th century. Mostafiz Noor Imran stars opposite Tushi once again. The cast also includes Prantar Dastidar, Toufiqul Emon, Shilpi Sarkar Apu, among others. Shooting has been completed, and the film is currently in the editing stage.
Meanwhile, "Andhar" is being made as a horror film, with Tushi appearing in the role of Nadia. She has chosen not to disclose details about the storyline at this stage. The film also stars Siam Ahmed, Chanchal Chowdhury, Afsana Mimi, and Mostafa Monwar. After wrapping up shooting last November, the director had announced that the film would be released this year following the completion of post-production.
In addition, reports over the past few days suggest that Tushi has begun shooting for another new film by Raihan Rafi, titled "Pressure Cooker". The project is said to be based on a women-centric story. However, the actress has declined to comment on the film for now, saying the team has instructed everyone not to speak about it. An official announcement is expected soon.
