Lady Gaga describes her Harley Quinn in ‘Joker: Folie à Deux’ as 'authentic'
Singer-actor Lady Gaga has recently stated that her portrayal of Harley Quinn in the highly anticipated film "Joker: Folie à Deux" will be distinct from past versions of the character.
In the sequel to Todd Phillips' "Joker," Lady Gaga will co-star with Joaquin Phoenix, who returns to his Academy Award-winning role as Arthur Fleck, also known as the Joker, from the 2019 film.
Lady Gaga revealed that her take on Harley Quinn will be an entirely new interpretation, different from the character's depictions in DC comic books or any earlier films in the franchise.
"My version of Harley is mine, and it's very authentic to this movie and these characters. I've never done anything like I've done in this movie before, so it's all going to be completely brand new and really fun," shared the Oscar winner with entertainment news outlet Access Hollywood.
Notably, actress Margot Robbie made a considerable mark by portraying the character in earlier franchise films, including "Suicide Squad", "Birds of Prey", and "The Suicide Squad".
"Joker: Folie à Deux" also features Catherine Keener, Brendan Gleeson, and Zazie Beetz. Directed by Phillips, this film is part of DC Elseworlds and exists outside the universe overseen by new DC Studios heads Peter Safran and James Gunn.
The musical is set to be released on October 4.
