Gias Uddin Selim’s ‘Perfect Wife’ to hit Chorki

Noted filmmaker Gias Uddin Selim returns to Chorki with the flash fiction romantic comedy movie "Perfect Wife." The film will be available for streaming on Chorki from midnight on October 22 (i.e., October 23).

The trailer was released on October 20, giving audiences a glimpse into a story that appears to revolve around certain events in the married life of two young couples.

It showcases a couple visiting the home of their married friends, and from there, a series of events begins to unfold. Although there is love between the two couples, conflicts gradually arise. But where does this conflict originate? Director Gias Uddin Selim said that the source of the conflict will be understood after watching the content — though understanding it won't be that simple.

Gias Uddin Selim said, "From a masculine perspective, there's this idea of having a 'perfect wife'—as if a woman becomes perfect only when she possesses certain qualities defined by her husband. Our new project 'Perfect Wife' aims to question this conventional notion or desire. We've tried to tell this story in a lighthearted way, and I believe the audience will enjoy it."

Known for films like "Monpura", "Swapnajaal", "Paap Punno", "Kajol Rekha", and the Chorki original "Gunin", Gias Uddin Selim is primarily associated with cinema. So why did he suddenly decide to create a short-format content? In response, the acclaimed filmmaker said, "As a director, I want to explore and create all kinds of work — and I believe that's what I should do."

Gias Uddin Selim has worked with a team of young and emerging talents for this project. He shared that the cinematographer, editor, and music director of this content are all working on a fiction project for the first time.

In  "Perfect Wife", the roles of the main couple are played by Sudip Biswas Deep and Ariana Zaman, while the other is portrayed by Mir Rabby and Zopari Lushai. The cast members expressed their excitement about working with such an esteemed filmmaker.

Will the story define what a "Perfect Wife" is? According to Sudip Biswas Deep, nothing in life is truly perfect. He said, "The story isn't meant to justify the word 'perfect.' My character is the spoiled son of a lawyer father. I may not lack much in life, but am I perfect? The story tries to explore such ideas in a humorous way. We had a lot of fun working on it, and I hope the audience will enjoy it too. And there's a great twist at the end!"

Ariana Zaman plays the role of the wife of Sudip Biswas Deep's character. In the story, she is a lawyer who carries the full responsibility of both the household and the family's assets. Ariana said, "This is my first time working with Gias Uddin Selim bhai. I've portrayed a character whose personality is completely opposite to mine. The playful moments and challenges of married life are reflected through the interactions between my character and Deep bhai's character. Viewers will get to see the complex aspects of relationships presented in a simple and relatable way."

According to actor Mir Rabby, the idea of "perfect" is relative — it means different things to different people. He said, "The story attempts to satirize some of the conventional habits and tendencies in our society. Compared to the kind of work I've done before, 'Perfect Wife' is a bit different. It includes some comedy and fun — you could call it situational comedy. It's quite a challenging genre. Just as it requires witty scenes and dialogues to create humor, the actors also have to deliver them effectively. The direction, editing, and music together create the comic moments. We've given our best effort, and I hope our work will bring joy to the audience."

Zopari Lushai plays a unique character in "Perfect Wife". In the trailer, she is heard speaking not only in Bangla but also in another language. Why so? The actress explained, "This character was completely unexpected for me. I believe the audience will also be quite surprised when they see it. And the ending is even more astonishing."
