Ferdous talks upcoming films, friendship with Purnima, and more
Ferdous is the hero of the well-known film, "Hothat Brishti". Even now, it is quite clear how busy his film schedule is. Currently, three of his films are awaiting release after receiving clearance from the Censor Board. At the same time, he is also busy shooting several other films.
Earlier today, the popular star sat down to speak with The Daily Star.
Has the release date for your film, '1971 Shei Shob Din' been announced?
Our Liberation War-based film will be relasing this August. The film has done a great job of showcasing the situation in Dhaka city back then. Hridi Haq done an excellent job. She has done what was necessary for the sake of the story. She has even brought together many famous artistes in one film. The film's songs are also good too.
In "1971 Shei Shob Din", I played the role of a university teacher. My character's name is Sanju. In our family, we are three brothers. The whole family and everyone around us fight for the country. The film's story will draw viewers in and really make them think.
You have also worked on another film called 'Mike', which received censor clearance.
"Mike" will play an important role in the lives of the new generation in the country. This is because it is based on Bangabandhu's famous March 7 speech. Those who watch this film will start to grow a love for the country and for Bangabandhu after watching "Mike". It was nice being able to act in such a story.
You have also worked in another film called 'Dampara', which is based on real events.
"Dampara" is a film based on a true story. It is a movie about police heroism. In 1971, Shamsul Alam was the SP of Chittagong Police in 1971. Without any fear about the Pakistani military, he supplied weapons all throughout the country so that we could fight. After the Pakistani forces learned about this, he was killed by their military. The story of his heroism is what "Dampara" is about. Shuddhoman Chaitnya has directed the film.
While many of your contemporaries are now away from cinema, you are still busy in this world. What is the reason behind that?
I love this world. Cinema is what made me Ferdous. My identity as a film artiste has brought me so much love and recognition from the people in the country. I want to keep up with the times and I want to be with acting. That's why I am still active in films, even at this age. I am getting to play many interesting characters and I want to continue acting like this for a long time. That's why I am so busy.
You have worked in a variety of film genres, from romantic to social films. Have you dabbled in the folk genre?
I did. I have worked on a film titled "Sujon Majhi", directed by Delwar Jahan Jhantu. It's the kind of film he makes. I enjoyed acting in such a film after a long time. It is also awaiting release. In the film, I play a boatman. The audience will see my role as majhi. After a long time, I have done a film that will touch everyone's hearts.
You are still presenting on stage and on television with actress Purnima, as well as pairing with her on the screen. Could you tell us more about this relationship?
We both started our journey in cinema in the same year. The depth of our relationship has mainly been created by working together. I have performed alongside her many times on stage. We have also presented together on television. To add to that, we also worked on films as well. Purnima is my good friend. I have been working with her regularly for a long time now. That's why we have a good level of communication with each other.
After a long time, you visited your village. How was the experience?
Kapash Kandi in Cumilla is my village. My father had started a school called Kapash Kandi Model Academy. I am the chairman of the schools' managing committee. There was a matter of recruiting teachers for the school. That's why I went to the village after a long time. Honestly, I enjoyed going to the village. It's hard to describe that feeling of love. I came back from the village full of love.
