FDC MD’s position in question amid 72-hour removal call

Masuma Rahman Tani was recently appointed as the Managing Director (MD) of the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC). However, a group advocating for fairness in the film industry has issued a 72-hour ultimatum, calling for her removal from the post.
Yesterday, during a press conference at the BFDC premises, this demand was announced by Ashraf Uddin Ahmed Uzzal, actor and adviser to the Non-Discriminatory Film Interests Protection Committee.
Addressing the media, Uzzal stated, "We have no issue with an administrator being appointed at BFDC for official duties. It is a government institution, and someone may come to work here—that's expected. However, the person being sent is, in our view, an unidentified accused individual."

He further added, "We neither know nor recognise her. You cannot force her upon us—that will not be accepted. We will resist it."
A protest rally was also held at the BFDC gate, presided over by Badiul Alam Khokon, convener of the Non-Discriminatory Film Interests Protection Committee and a film director. Several industry figures, including Rezabuddaula Chowdhury, JASAS convener and actor Helal Khan, JASAS member secretary Zakir Hossain Rokon, Nationalist Cultural Alliance Secretary-General Rafiqul Islam, and other notable actors, directors, and film professionals, spoke at the event.
As part of their protest, they staged a symbolic blockade at BFDC for an hour on Sunday, from 12pm to 1pm.
Masuma Rahman Tani's appointment as BFDC's new MD was officially announced on February 19 through a notification from the Ministry of Public Administration.
