Jason Momoa is returning to the DC universe, even though his time as Aquaman has concluded. He is instead set to take on the role of the antihero Lobo in the upcoming film "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow".

The superhero film, featuring "House of the Dragon" star Milly Alcock as the titular character Kara Zor-El, will be the second instalment in James Gunn and Peter Safran's reimagined DC Universe.

It will follow the much-anticipated "Superman", which stars David Corenswet as the iconic Man of Steel and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane.

"Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow" is set to be directed by Craig Gillespie and will include Matthias Schoenaerts as the antagonist Krem of the Yellow Hill and Eve Ridley as Ruthye Mary Knolle. The screenplay, penned by Ana Nogueira ("The Vampire Diaries"), is inspired by the DC comic series created by Tom King and Bilquis Evely.

Jason Momoa took to Instagram to confirm the casting news, sharing a quote from his interview with Fandango during the "Aquaman 2" press tour. In the interview, he spoke about his long-standing admiration for the character, an antihero renowned for his aggressive and wicked nature.

"I collect comics, and I don't do so much anymore, but he was always my favourite, and I always wanted to play Lobo, because I'm like, 'Hello? It's the perfect role,'" he had admitted in that interview.

"I mean, listen. If they call and ask me to play him, it's a heck yeah. I haven't received that call, so I don't want to put any fake news out there, but if they ever call me and ask me to play, or ask me to audition, I'm there."

Filming for "Supergirl" is scheduled to commence on January 13, with the movie expected to hit theatres on June 26, 2026. While specific plot details remain undisclosed, James Gunn has hinted that "Woman of Tomorrow" will offer a grittier and more intense take on the character, who is known as Superman's cousin.
