Apu Biswas set for a ‘Durbar’ comeback
Apu Biswas, who has starred opposite Shakib Khan as the leading lady in a record number of films and delivered numerous box-office successes, is set to return to the silver screen after a two-year hiatus. She is currently shooting for her new film, where she stars opposite popular actor Shajal Noor.
Speaking to The Daily Star, Apu Biswas opened up about her comeback, the film, and her renewed journey in Dhakai cinema.
Her upcoming film, titled "Durbar", is directed by Kamrul Hassan Fuad. A thriller by genre, the film promises to present the actress in an entirely new light. "In 'Durbar', audiences will see me moving at a durbar pace," she said with a smile. "I'll be appearing in a different character and a different look. Viewers will get to watch a very good film, and there are many surprises in store."
Sharing an update on the shoot, she added, "The shooting of 'Durbar' is also progressing at a durbar (indomitable) pace. About 40 percent of my portion has already been completed, and the rest will be finished very soon."
Reflecting on returning to the camera after a long break, Apu Biswas spoke with emotion and gratitude. "It is cinema that has given me my identity. All the love I've received from audiences has come through films. So even though it took some time, I'm happy that I could return with a good project."
She emphasised that her comeback was carefully planned. "I always wanted to return with quality work, and I believe I've been able to do that. I'm shooting with a lot of preparation. Just as I received love from the audience before, I hope to receive it again through 'Durbar'."
Having worked opposite many leading men over the years, Apu Biswas is now sharing screen space with Shajal for the first time. Speaking about her co-star, she said, "Shajal bhai is a wonderful person and extremely humble. I'm a big fan of his acting. This is our first film together, and audiences will see us in a completely new way."
When asked about Shajal as a hero, she was quick to praise him. "He's very good and has immense experience in acting. From the very first day, our shooting went beautifully. We're working with great understanding, and I believe audiences will really like us as a pair. Honestly, Shajal bhai is my dream hero."
Apu Biswas also stressed the importance of storytelling. "Audiences always appreciate a good story, and 'Durbar' has that. There are plenty of surprises, but I'll share more details when the time is right."
Speaking about director Kamrul Hassan Fuad, she said, "He's a very talented director who works with great care. The story is different, and I can clearly see finesse and maturity in his direction."
However, when it comes to her character in the film, the actress chose to remain tight-lipped. "I don't want to reveal anything right now. I'll talk about it once the work is properly completed."
Asked whether she regrets returning to the big screen later than expected, Apu Biswas firmly said no. "I took my time for good work, and this project is shaping up exactly the way I wanted."
Concluding the conversation, she reflected on her long journey in cinema with gratitude. "I've come this far in Dhakai cinema because of the audience's love, and I want to continue walking this path much further with that same love."
