Abhishek Bachchan was supposed to debut alongside Dilip Kumar in 1998

Abhishek Bachchan is leaving no stone unturned in promoting his upcoming movie, 'Ghoomer', in which he takes on the role of a cricket coach. Reflecting on his early days in the industry, the actor recalled the challenges he faced in securing his debut film.

"I spent around 1-2 years trying to land a movie role, but convincing anyone to cast me was proving to be a tough task. Then, one day my father invited me to accompany him to the Filmfare Awards. Since I didn't have appropriate attire for the event, I wore the sherwani I had worn at my sister's wedding," Abhishek shared.

During the Filmfare Awards ceremony, where J.P. Dutta won the Best Film award for "Border", Abhishek's presence caught the attention of the filmmaker. "My father and I were seated in the front row, and that's when JP saab noticed me. At that time, he was working on a film titled 'Aakhri Mughal'. A few days after the awards, he visited our house and told my father, 'I saw Abhishek that day and I liked his look, he would be perfect for the role'," Abhishek recounted.

However, fate had other plans as the film 'Aakhri Mughal' never materialized. "Unfortunately, that film never came to fruition. It was supposed to star Dilip Kumar and me. Instead, he came up with the concept of 'Refugee', and that's the project we ended up doing. I was signed for my first film, but unfortunately, it never saw the light of day," Abhishek revealed.
