On the occasion of the 22nd anniversary of theatre troupe Swapnadal, the troupe has organised dual exhibitions of their most popular production, "Chitrangada" directed by Zahid Repon.
At 6 pm and 7:30 pm, the stage at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy's studio theater will come alive with "Chitrangada." This production, is a government grant-winning theater, first graced the stage in 2011. The production will take theater enthusiasts on a mythical journey, immersing them in the riveting saga of Manipuri princess Chitrangada and the enigmatic lord Arjun.
Inspired by an episode from the epic "Mahabharata", the lyrical version of the drama "Chitrangada", that Rabindranath Tagore wrote in 1892, is a celebration of the emancipation of women
The play delicately weaves the tale of an initially unattractive Chitrangada, whose unrequited love for lord Arjun takes a transformative twist. Bestowed with newfound beauty through the benevolence of Hindu deities Madan and Basanta, Chitrangada's beauty attracts Arjun, igniting a magnetic attraction and moves the story forward.
