‘Prince’ tops 130 halls, ‘Domm’ and ‘Bonolota Express’ expand nationwide
This year’s Eid has kicked off with five new film releases across Bangladesh, each competing for audience attention. The early numbers show a clear leader in theatre distribution.
Shakib Khan’s "Prince: Once Upon a Time in Dhaka", directed by Abu Hayat Mahmud, dominates the screen count with 130 halls nationwide. Most single-screen cinemas are screening the film, which delves into Dhaka’s underworld. The ensemble cast includes Shakib Khan, Tasnia Farin, Jyotirmoyee Kundu, Dibyendu Bhattacharya, Rashed Mamun Apu, Intekhab Dinar, and Ejajul Islam.
Redwan Rony’s "Domm" follows, with a strong presence in multiplexes. It is showing in 27 shows across eight Star Cineplex branches, alongside screenings at Blockbuster Cinemas and Lion Cinemas. Key actors include Afran Nisho, Puja Chery, Chanchal Chowdhury, and Dolly Zahur.
Tanim Noor’s "Bonolota Express" is screening in multiple locations, including seven Star Cineplex branches, Blockbuster Cinemas, Lion Cinemas, and K-Cineplex in Comilla. The cast features Mosharraf Karim, Chanchal Chowdhury, Intekhab Dinar, Zakia Bari Mamo, Azmeri Haque Badhon, Sabila Nur, Sariful Razz, and Shamol Mawla.
Rihaan Rafi’s "Pressure Cooker" is showing in seven Star Cineplex branches and at Blockbuster Cinemas, Lion Cinemas, and Liberty Cinema in Khulna. The film stars Shobnom Bubly, Nazifa Tushi, Snigdha Chowdhury, Maria Shanta, Fazlur Rahman Babu, Shahiduzzaman Selim, Misha Sawdagor, Azizul Hakim, and Saberi Alam.
Finally, Mehedi Hassan Hridoy’s "Rakkhosh" opens in seven Star Cineplex halls alongside Blockbuster Cinemas, Lion Cinemas, and Ananda Cinema in Kuliarchar, Khulna. The cast includes Siam and India’s Sushmita Chatterjee.
At the opening of Eid, "Prince: Once Upon a Time in Dhaka" clearly leads in screen count, giving it a potential advantage at the box office. The remaining films are distributed more evenly, with multiplex-heavy releases for "Domm" and regional screening clusters for "Bonolota Express", "Pressure Cooker", and "Rakkhosh". Over the coming days, audience turnout will determine which films perform strongest in revenue and popularity.
