Miley Cyrus' new song 'Flowers' breaks Spotify record
Popular singer Miley Cyrus broke the Spotify record for her new energetic track on being single, "Flowers". The song became the most-streamed song over a single week on Spotify, the streaming service announced Friday, just seven days after the song was released.
"Flowers" is the lead track from Cyrus' upcoming album Endless Summer Vacation, which is due to be out in March. The song, which is a riff on Bruno Mars's "When I Was Your Man" and an adaptation of Gloria Gaynor's "I Will Survive," has been acclaimed as a breakup anthem.
It's widely assumed that the song is about Cyrus' ex-husband, actor Liam Hemsworth because it was published on his birthday. Its lyrics appear to be about their love, such as "made a home and watched it burn," which could be a reference to the couple's Malibu home, which was destroyed in a fire in 2018.
Regardless of how popular "Flowers" becomes, it will still be a long way from becoming her most-streamed song. According to current Spotify statistics, her all-time leader is "Party in the USA," which has 1.1 billion Spotify streams to date. In 2009, that song peaked at No. 2 on the Hot 100.
