Miles to pay tribute to Shafin Ahmed in Australia concerts
Legendary Bangladeshi band "Miles", known for defining generations of rock and pop music, is set to embark on an Australia tour this month — one filled with emotion and nostalgia. The concerts will serve as a special tribute to the late Shafin Ahmed, one of the band's founding pillars.
In this tour, fans will not only hear "Miles" perform live but also experience Shafin's presence through an LED screen, where his face will appear as his voice plays through the sound system — accompanied live by the band. The performances are expected to evoke deep emotions among fans, bringing Shafin's memory vividly back to life.
The band will fly to Australia on October 21, with shows scheduled in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide, and Perth. Each concert will feature at least one tribute song dedicated to Shafin Ahmed.
Speaking about the tour, "Miles" frontman Hamin Ahmed said, "Shafin was one of the souls of Miles. His voice and stage presence gave the band a unique energy. In this tour, we will remember him in every concert. Through a special performance, we want audiences to feel as if he is still with us."
He added, "It is hard to imagine Miles without Shafin. Our goal is to honour his legacy and let the audience relive his spirit."
For expatriate Bangladeshis, "Miles" concerts are more than just musical events — they are reunions with memories of home. Songs like "Phiriye Dao", "Dhiki Dhiki", "Chand Tara", "Piyasi Mon", "Prothom Premer Moto", "Pahari Meye", "Jadu", "Dorodiya", "Polashir Prantor", and "Neela" have long been emotional touchstones for fans across the world.
Reflecting on the group's connection with Australia, Hamin said, "Australia has always felt like a place of warmth and love. We performed in Sydney last June and received tremendous response. We always try to spread light through our music, and we hope to do the same this time."
Miles was the first Bangladeshi band to perform full-scale international shows, beginning in 1989. "We have performed more than 180 concerts abroad," Hamin noted. "Our global fanbase, especially among expatriates, has kept growing ever since."
Formed in 1979, "Miles" remains one of Bangladesh's most iconic bands. Over 45 years, their albums — including "Miles" (1982), "A Step Farther" (1986), "Protishruti" (1991), "Prottasha" (1993), "Prottoy" (1996), "Proyash" (1997), "Probaho" (2000), "Protiddhoni" (2006), "Protichchhobi" (2015), and "Proborton" (India release) — have cemented their legacy in Bangla rock history.
The current lineup includes Hamin Ahmed, Manam Ahmed, Syed Ziaur Rahman Turjo and Iqbal Asif Jewel.
