Katy Perry joins first all female crew on flight into space

Pop star Katy Perry is set to journey into space on an upcoming all-female mission aboard Blue Origin's New Shepard rocket.
She will be accompanied by Lauren Sanchez, fiancée of Blue Origin's founder Jeff Bezos, CBS host Gayle King, ex-NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, civil rights activist Amanda Nguyen, and film producer Kerianne Flynn.
Katy Perry is set to embark on her Lifetime Tour from April 23 to November 11, so this space mission is expected to take place before that.
For Perry, this opportunity is a dream come true. Reflecting on the moment, she told Newsweek, "If you had told me I would be part of the first-ever all-female crew in space, I would have believed you. As a child, nothing was beyond my imagination."
While the exact launch date hasn't been revealed, Blue Origin confirmed the flight will occur this spring.
This will be the first space mission featuring an all-female crew. The NS-31 mission will mark the 11th human spaceflight for the New Shepard rocket, bringing the total number of passengers to 52.
The fully autonomous flight, which lasts about 11 minutes, will take passengers beyond the Kármán line, the internationally recognised boundary of space.
Blue Origin credits Sanchez with assembling this groundbreaking mission, describing her as "honoured to lead a team of explorers" who will "broaden their perspectives of Earth" and inspire future generations.
Sanchez first announced plans for an all-female crew in 2023, sharing her vision with Vogue as a way to "pave the way for women."
Fans are thrilled by the unexpected announcement. One fan wrote, "Stanning Katy Perry is kinda entertaining, because what do you mean she's going to space all of a sudden?"
Another joked, "Katy Perry being launched into space should be broadcast in every classroom across the country."
Yet another fan humorously pointed out, "We're sending Katy Perry to space before she even gets her 10th number 1."
This mission is set to make history as Perry and her all-female crew prepare for a groundbreaking journey to the stars.
