Youth held for 'gang-raping' Bagerhat schoolgirl

A youth was detained today in Mollahat upazila of Bagerhat for allegedly gang-raping a schoolgirl and uploading a video footage of the crime on the internet.

Accused Abdur Rahim, 20, of Gawla village of Mollahat upazila along with his friend reportedly gang-raped the 10th grader on June 23, Mollahat Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) ANM Khairul Anam said quoting the case statement.

The victim’s family, who had remained silent in fear and shame, lodged a case with Mollahat Police Station yesterday after the accused allegedly posted the video footage of the rape in social media platforms on September 5, the OC added.

Another accused was on the run, the police official said.
