Three killed as bus hits roadside tree in Bagerhat
Three people were killed and around 20 others injured as a bus hit a roadside tree in Bagerhat on Wednesday night, reports our correspondent.
The accident occurred on Khulna-Mongla highway in Sonatunia area of Rampal upazila after the driver lost control over the vehicle, said Rezaul Karim, deputy director at Khulna Fire Service and Civil Defence.
The bus of Arafat Paribahan overturned, he said.
Two of the deceased are Ferdous from Parikhali village in the upazila and Mohammad Kamrul from Mongla. Identity of the other deceased could not be ascertained immediately, said Katakhali Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge Maloy Roy.
The injured were taken to different hospitals, including Khulna Medical College Hospital, said the OC.
Our Mymensingh correspondent adds, a vehicle ran over a man while he was sleeping beside a road in Netrakona town's Muktarpara area early yesterday, killing him on the spot.
The man -- Dulal Mia, 50, from Chuchua village in Netrakona -- was mentally imbalanced, said Borhan Uddin Khan, officer-in-charge of Netrakona Model Police Station.
The driver fled with the vehicle, added the OC.
Meanwhile, at least 25 passengers of a bus were injured after the vehicle skidded off Rangpur-Pirgachha road in Beltola village of Pirgachha upazila in Rangpur yesterday, reports our Dinajpur correspondent.
Five of the injured were admitted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital, said police.
The bus overturned as the driver lost control over the steering and drove through a crop field , police added.
