Rape accused found dead in Tangail

Police recovered the body of a man accused of rape at Shaliabaha Nayapara village under Ghatail upazila in Tangail early today.

The deceased was identified as Rohiz Uddin Apu, 45, a resident of the same village, reports our Tangail correspondent.

Apu allegedly raped a fourth-grader of the same village on February 9. A day after the incident, the victim's father filed a case against Apu, who had been absconding since then, police said.

This morning, locals found his body hanging from a mango tree near his residence and informed police.

Later, police went to the spot and recovered the body, said Amir Khasru, assistant superintendent of police (Gopalpur Circle).

Police are investigating the matter to see whether it was a suicide or murder, the police official added.
