Verdict on Janakantha’s contempt rule Aug 13

The apex court today fixed August 13 for delivering verdict on a contempt of court rule against The Daily Janakantha editor and its executive editor.

A six-member bench of Appellate Division of the Supreme Court led by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha set the date after hearing arguments on the rule.

On July 29, the SC issued the rule against the Bangla daily editor Atiqullah Khan Masud and its Executive Editor Swadesh Roy for a July 16 involving Salauddin Quader Chowdhury.

During today's hearing, Janakantha's lawyer Salauddin Dolon told the court that the article was published on faith. There was no intention to malign the judiciary.

Attorney General Mahbubey Alam told the court the article was contemptuous as it had damaged the dignity of honour of judiciary.
