Privatisation commission, BOI to be merged

The government has decided to merge the Board of Investment and Privatisation Commission into Bangladesh Investment Development Authority.

The decision was taken at today's regular cabinet meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Cabinet Secretary Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan told journalists.

Last July, the prime minister hinted of this move and said it will be to boost investment and industrialisation in the country.

She had said there was "nothing for privatisation now. We want to see how these [state-run industries] can be utilised for investment in the country."
