‘BSF’ kills 1 on Satkhira border

A Bangladeshi cattle trader was shot dead allegedly by Indian Border Security Force on Kushkhali border in Satkhira Sadar upazila yesterday.

Police recovered the body of Mukul Sarder, 35, from beside a road near Bandhhilki beel around 11:30pm yesterday, 19 hours after he was killed in "BSF firing", a correspondent from Satkhira reports quoting the victim's associates.

Mukul along with other cattle traders went to the Indian territory under Bashirhat Police Station around noon on Friday, locals told the correspondent.

The BSF men of Khalshe camp opened fire on Mukul and his teammates when they were returning to Bangladesh with cattle around 4:00am yesterday, they said.

Mukul was hit by a bullet and died on the spot while his associates managed to return home. Later, police recovered the body.

Abdul Khalek, father-in-law of the victim, confirmed that Mukul was a cattle trader. He however could not say when his son-in-law went to India.

The body bore marks of bullet injury on his abdomen, said Emdadul Haque, officer-in-charge of Satkhira Sadar Police Station.

His body was wrapped up with date leaves and it was decomposed, the OC said.

The body was sent to Satkhira Sadar Hospital, the OC added.

Confirming the incident, Nayek Subedar Belal Hossain of Kushkhali Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) camp said that they investigating the killing.
