Meghdoot, a brand new Boeing 737-800 aircraft, joins the fleet of Biman Bangladesh Airlines today.

The 162-seat aircraft purchased from Boeing landed at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport around 5:00pm, said Shahnewaz, director (Marketing and Sales) of Biman.

The country's flag carrier is expected to get another Boeing 737-800 by the next month.

"With the joining of Meghdoot today and another Boeing 737-800 aircraft in December, we will expand our route to Colombo in Sri Lanka, Male in Maldives and Guangzhou in China. The two aircraft would also help us increase our frequencies on the existing routes and improve our on time performance," Shahnewaz told The Daily Star.

Biman has already received four brand new Boeing 777-300 ER aircraft following a 2008 deal under which Biman will acquire 10 new generation aircraft - four Boeing 777-300ERs, two Boeing 737-800 and four Boeing 787 Dreamliners.

The four 787 Dreamliner aircraft are scheduled to be delivered by 2019-2020.

With the joining of Meghdoot, the number of aircraft of the Biman fleet now stands at 13.

Presently Biman flies to 15 destinations of Middle East, Europe and Asia.
